Colombia Travel FAQs
Do US and Canadian citizens need a visa for Colombia?
US and Canadian citizens generally do not need a visa for a tourist visit of up to 90 days. Immigration determines your permitted stay on arrival. Keep your return or onward ticket and accommodation details accessible. If you hold another passport, check the Colombian visa requirements for your nationality before booking.
What is Check-Mig, and do I need it?
Check-Mig is Colombia’s free online migration pre-registration. Migración Colombia currently describes the service as optional and available from 72 hours to 1 hour before travel. We recommend completing it for your journey to and from Colombia and keeping the confirmation accessible. Check current instructions with your airline before departure and use only the official Migración Colombia service.
Do I need a tourist card for San Andrés?
Visitors to San Andrés generally need a paid tourist card, separate from any Colombian immigration entry fee. Check the current fee and purchase instructions with your airline before your island flight, and keep the card for departure. Have your return or onward island ticket and accommodation details available. See the San Andrés government tourist-card information for the procedure; confirm the current price before paying.
Are Nomad’s Colombia tours private?
Arrangements depend on the tour. Our San Andrés and Cartagena cultural journey has private ground transfers and guided touring, commercial domestic flights, and a shared Isla Corona excursion. Other routes have their own arrangements. Check the individual tour page and your confirmed itinerary for private and shared services, included flights, meals and activities. Contact us if you would like to discuss changes.
Do I need vaccines for Colombia?
Vaccination advice depends on your itinerary, health and travel history. Colombia’s health ministry advises yellow fever vaccination before travel to risk areas, with vaccination records checked at health controls for very high-risk municipalities. Review your Amazon or other lowland route with a travel-health professional well before departure. If vaccination is recommended or required for your route, allow at least 10 days and carry the appropriate certificate. Use mosquito-bite precautions. Check the current Colombian health guidance.
Costa Rica Travel FAQs
Do US and Canadian citizens need a visa for Costa Rica?
US and Canadian citizens can generally visit Costa Rica as tourists without a visa. Immigration decides your permitted stay on arrival, up to a maximum of 180 days. Check your entry stamp rather than assuming the full allowance. Other passports may have different visa, passport-validity and stay rules; check the official entry guidance for your nationality.
When is a good time to visit Costa Rica?
December through April is generally the drier period on much of the Pacific side, while May through November brings greener landscapes and more rain. The Caribbean coast follows a different pattern, with relatively drier periods often in February to March and September to October. Tortuguero, Puerto Viejo and Cahuita should not be planned using Pacific weather alone. Choose dates around your route and activities, and expect tropical showers in any season.
Are Nomad’s Costa Rica tours private?
Our Costa Rica itineraries combine different arrangements. The Natural Costa Rica and Caribbean Coast tours include private airport transfers, with some shared transfers and guided activities. The Deluxe Adventure is primarily private, while Pacuare rafting and lodge activities are shared with other guests. Read your selected tour page and confirmed itinerary for the exact mix. Contact us to discuss changes or additional nights.
Do I need vaccines for Costa Rica?
Travelers arriving directly from the US or Canada generally do not need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Requirements can change with your recent travel history and transit stops, particularly if your trip also includes Colombia or another yellow-fever-risk destination. Check current Costa Rican health and consular guidance for your full route. Consult a travel-health professional about routine vaccines, mosquito-bite prevention and any route-specific precautions.
What should I pack, and how much walking should I expect?
Bring light, quick-drying clothing, a rain layer, insect repellent, sun protection and closed-toe shoes with good grip. A warmer layer is useful in cooler highland areas. Forest paths may be wet, muddy or uneven, and hanging bridges, steps and boat boarding can require balance. Tell us about mobility needs before booking so the actual route, accommodation and transport can be checked.
