Schedule Details

Day 1: Salt Lake City - USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum - Canyonlands - Dead Horse Point - Moab

Your adventure will begin around 9 AM when your tour guide picks you up, either from Salt Lake City Airport or from a hotel of your choosing. If you'd like to start your tour from an area other than Salt Lake City, please let us know and we'll make arrangements.

Starting from Salt Lake City, we'll drive southeast until we reach the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum in Price, Utah. This accredited museum houses over 700,000 archaeological and paleontological specimens, including real dinosaur fossils, Utahraptor remains, and artifacts from the ancient Fremont people who lived in the region 1,000 to 2,000 years ago.

After exploring the museum, we'll have a quick lunch and then depart for Dead Horse Point State Park. Located only a few miles from Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point offers a stunning view of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below. Your guide will share the interesting story of how this park got its name.

Next, we'll drive over to the adjacent Canyonlands National Park. This park is made up of three distinct regions: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, and the Maze. Today we'll tour the Island in the Sky region, situated high above the Colorado River on the Colorado Plateau. From this vantage point, we'll gaze deep into the canyons below for views of geology shaped over millions of years.

Following Canyonlands, we'll travel to Moab, Utah, for dinner and to explore the town. Positioned between Arches and Canyonlands, Moab is the gateway to many of Utah's greatest natural landscapes. This popular town offers river rafting, hiking, rock climbing, helicopter tours, horseback riding, and more.

Finally, we'll drop you off at your hotel in Moab so you can relax before the next day's adventure.

Accommodations: Best Western, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Archway Inn, or a similar quality hotel.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Not included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 2: Arches - Adventure in Moab - Bluff

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Arches National Park. With more than 2,000 arches, the park boasts the densest concentration of natural sandstone arches in the world. Famous formations like Landscape Arch, Delicate Arch, and Double Arch can be easily admired with just a short hike. This is one national park you won't want to miss.

Afterward, we'll return to Moab for an adventure of your choice. Options include river rafting, horseback riding, additional hiking, a riverboat tour, an off-road 4×4 tour, and more. (Adventures are at your own expense and can be arranged through your guide.) These activities will keep us engaged until dinnertime, which we'll enjoy in town.

Our last destination for the day is Potash Road. Located just outside Moab, this scenic drive winds along the Colorado River with water on one side and a massive rock cliff on the other. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to ancient petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, and additional arches that can be accessed on foot.

Finally, we'll drive to Bluff, Utah, where we'll drop you off at your hotel for the night.

Accommodations: Bluff Dwellings Resort & Spa, Desert Rose Resort, Bluff Gardens, or similar quality accommodation.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 3: Bluff - Four Corners Monument - Monument Valley - Gooseneck - Hanksville

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Bluff and drive you to Monument Valley. Comprising vast buttes that rise up to 1,000 feet above the valley floor, Monument Valley is the perfect place to stretch your legs and capture some breathtaking photographs. These iconic buttes have appeared in numerous films, most famously the running scene in Forrest Gump. Your visit includes a 4×4 Navajo guided jeep tour through the valley.

Next, we'll travel to Goosenecks State Park, which offers stunning views of the San Juan River where it has carved deep into the landscape, creating a canyon full of tight meandering turns.

We'll also stop at Mexican Hat, an incredible sombrero-shaped rock formation that gives the nearby town its name. We'll have lunch in the area.

At the end of the day, your guide will drop you off at your accommodation in the Mexican Hat area.

Accommodations: Cabin in Dukes Slickrock Campground & RV Park, or similar quality accommodation.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 4: Hanksville - Goblin Valley - Capitol Reef - Antimony

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up and drive you to Goblin Valley State Park. The "goblins" of Goblin Valley get their name from the thousands of unique hoodoos, or columns of weathered stone, that dot the landscape. There are no designated paths in the main valley, allowing you to walk right up to the hoodoos for stunning photographs. If time allows, your guide will lead you on a hike to Goblin's Lair, an incredibly tall hidden cave.

Following Goblin Valley, we'll head for Capitol Reef National Park. Capitol Reef holds a rich history and unique geology. Over 1,000 years ago, the Fremont people inhabited this region, leaving behind petroglyphs on the cliffs that remain visible today. We'll also explore the remnants of Fruita, a small pioneer settlement established in the 1880s, known for its historic orchards.

Next, we'll travel along Scenic Byway 12, recognized as one of America's most spectacular drives, winding through southern Utah's high desert and forested plateau country.

If time permits, we'll also explore Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, a vast and remote landscape of slot canyons, hoodoos, and sweeping vistas.

At day's end, we'll drop you off at your hotel near Bryce Canyon or Capitol Reef to rest before the next day's adventure.

Accommodations: Capitol Reef Resort, Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel, or similar quality accommodation.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 5: Antimony - Bryce Canyon - Zion National Park - Kanab

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up and drive you to Bryce Canyon National Park. From its beautiful pink and white cliffs to its thousands of hoodoos, Bryce Canyon is sure to leave a powerful impression. The park features many incredible viewpoints that are easily accessible and provide excellent locations for photography. For the more adventurous, your guide can take you down into the canyon along the Navajo-Queen's Garden Trail, passing right next to incredible rock formations that have taken millions of years to shape.

Following Bryce Canyon, we'll drive south along Highway 89 toward Zion National Park. Zion will take your breath away as you travel through gorgeous wind-sculpted canyons. The park has something for everyone: those who prefer to stay in the vehicle will love the intricate patterns on Checkerboard Mesa and the views at Weeping Rock. Amateur hikers will enjoy the Canyon Overlook Trail and the Riverside Walk. For experienced hikers, the Narrows offers a more challenging adventure wading through the Virgin River canyon.

At the end of the day, we'll depart for Kanab, Utah. This region in southern Utah has both a beautiful landscape and a rich history. Thanks to its striking red sandstone cliffs and unique terrain, Kanab has served as the set of many famous Hollywood films and TV shows, including The Lone Ranger, Planet of the Apes, and Arabian Nights. While in the Kanab area, you'll see the alluring Pink Coral Sand Dunes, the impressive Moqui Sand Caves, and other historical sights.

For dinner, we'll eat at one of the many restaurants in Kanab. After dinner, your guide will drop you off at your hotel.

Accommodations: Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Kanab, or similar quality hotel.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 6: Kanab - Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument Adventures (Wave Valley, Coyote Buttes, White Pocket) - Kanab

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel for a full day exploring some of the most remarkable landscapes in the American Southwest.

Coyote Buttes (The Wave): Your guide will participate in the BLM permit lottery for The Wave at Coyote Buttes North in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. If our group wins a permit, you'll experience this world-famous, Jurassic-age Navajo sandstone formation, sculpted by 190 million years of wind and water into undulating, swirling patterns of red, orange, and pink. The hike is strenuous and approximately 6.4 miles round-trip through unmarked backcountry terrain. Suitable hiking shoes and physical fitness are essential.

If our group is not selected in the lottery, your guide will arrange an alternative experience in the surrounding area, which may include Wire Pass, White Pocket, or other Vermilion Cliffs hikes (depending on conditions and availability).

Horseshoe Bend: Later in the day, we'll visit Horseshoe Bend, the dramatic U-shaped meander of the Colorado River just outside Page, Arizona. A short hike from the parking area leads to an overlook with a roughly 1,000-foot drop to the river below — one of the most photographed views in the Southwest.

Moqui Cave: On our way back, we'll stop at Moqui Cave, a sandstone cave converted into a museum housing one of the largest collections of dinosaur tracks in southern Utah, alongside Native American artifacts and pioneer-era exhibits.

For dinner, we'll eat in Kanab. After dinner, your guide will drop you off at your hotel.

Accommodations: Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Kanab, or similar quality hotel.

Meal arrangements:

  • Breakfast: Included
  • Lunch: Not included
  • Dinner: Not included
Day 7: Kanab - Moqui Cave and Sand Caves Museum - Coral Pink Sand Dunes - Mystic Hot Springs - Salt Lake City

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park for a beautiful short hike. The park showcases uniquely pink-hued sand dunes nestled against red sandstone cliffs.

After the hike, we'll have a quick lunch and then proceed to Mystic Hot Springs in Monroe, Utah. These geothermal springs offer the perfect opportunity to unwind after several days of adventure. The mineral-rich waters provide gentle heat and a relaxing soak in travertine pools overlooking the valley.

Following the hot springs, we'll drive back to Salt Lake City. Settled in 1847 by Mormon pioneers, Salt Lake City has grown into the vibrant capital of Utah and a gateway to the West. If time permits, your guide will show you the heart of the city: Temple Square and the State Capitol Building.

Depending on your departure time, we can drop you off either at the airport or at a hotel of your choice.

Another option for Day 7: depart Kanab and head to Las Vegas instead. Please contact us for more details.

The Wave Valley is a small and remote area. Upon reaching the Wave Valley, you'll need to traverse a trail that's approximately 10.2 kilometers (6.3 miles) long. This area is recommended for experienced hikers, as the terrain consists mostly of smooth rock and sand, requiring skilled navigation. Due to its remoteness, cellular signal is limited in this location. The landforms here have been shaped over millions of years of erosion. The intricate layers of rock comprise immense sand dunes that began forming during the Jurassic period, 150 million years ago. Back then, these dunes resembled a vast desert, continuously covered by red sand saturated with groundwater. Over time, minerals in the water precipitated, compacting the sand into sandstone and forming a layered structure. This ancient sand dune eventually gave rise to a type of sandstone known as "Navajo sandstone." The erosion process has sculpted a mesmerizing three-dimensional effect, featuring sandstone swirls adorned with a variety of unique colors. These rare natural formations attract visitors from around the globe. These captivating landscapes are truly some of Earth's greatest treasures, and their preservation should be of utmost importance.

F.A.Q

3 Things need to pay attention to before you join the tour.

Wear comfortable shoes. The itinerary involves hiking, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes or specialized hiking shoes because the sandstone surfaces here can be very slippery. Being prepared is the key to having a more enjoyable trip.

Be prepared for all kinds of weather. The various national parks in Utah have their own unique climates and weather, which means that the weather here is very difficult to predict. Prepare clothing that can be put on or taken off as needed, or bring raincoats or other waterproof and windproof outerwear, which can be found in professional outdoor stores.

Pay attention to sun protection. It is very important to prepare sunscreen because sunburn can not only cause skin damage but also make tourists suffer from heat stroke or dehydration, and even threaten their lives. It's best to wear a hat or choose routes that have less exposure to the sun when necessary.
