Canyonlands is home to many different types of travel experiences, from sublime solitude in the more remote stretches of the park to moderate hikes through the Needles district to the opportunity to create your own version of one of the West's most photographed landforms, Mesa Arch.

2. Canyonlands National Park Moab, UT

Daily Schedule

Historical Excursion USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum - Canyonlands - Dead Horse Point

Your adventure begins around 9 AM when your tour guide picks you up, either from Salt Lake City Airport or a hotel of your choice. If you prefer to start your tour from a different location, please inform us, and we'll make the necessary arrangements.

Starting from Salt Lake City, we'll head southeast until we reach the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum in Price, Utah. Here, you can delve into life's history thousands to millions of years ago in Southern Utah. With over 700,000 archaeological artifacts, including complete dinosaur skeletons and ancient Fremont people's pictographs dating back over 2,000 years, there's something captivating for every interest.

After exploring the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum, we'll enjoy a quick lunch and then continue to Dead Horse Point State Park. Situated a short distance from Canyonlands National Park, this park offers a unique vantage point to observe the Colorado River 2,000 feet below. Your tour guide will share the intriguing story behind the park's name as we drive through.

Our journey proceeds to the adjacent Canyonlands National Park, specifically the Island in the Sky region. Perched atop the Colorado Plateau, high above the Colorado River, we'll peer deep into the untouched canyons below, providing a window into the past.

Following our time at Canyonlands National Park, we'll make our way to Moab, Utah for dinner and an exploration of the town. Nestled between Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, Moab serves as the gateway to some of Utah's most magnificent natural landscapes. Offering a plethora of activities, from river rafting to rock climbing, and even skydiving, you're bound to enjoy your stay here just as much as the national parks.

Finally, we'll drop you off at your hotel in Moab, allowing you to unwind before embarking on the next day's adventure.

Accommodations:

Best Western, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Archway Inn, or a similar quality hotel.

Daily Itinerary Arches - Adventure in Moab

In the morning, your tour guide will come pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Arches National Park. At more than 2,000 arches, Arches National Park has the densest concentration of natural sandstone arches in the world! With only a short hike, many world famous arches can be seen in all their glory, including landscape arch, delicate arch, and double arch. Without a doubt, this is one national park you do not want to miss!

Afterwards, we’ll return back to Moab, Utah for an adventure of your choice. These adventures could include river rafting, horseback riding, additional hiking, a riverboat tour, an off-road 4x4 tour, or more! These adventures will take us all the way until dinner time, which we’ll eat in town.

Following dinner, we’ll have time for additional activities of your choice, ranging from additional hikes, walking around town, a riverboat dinner, or more.

Daily Itinerary Moab - Goblin Valley - Salt Lake City

In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Potash Road, located just outside Moab. Potash Road winds along the Colorado River, offering water on one side and a towering rock cliff on the other. While the road itself is beautiful, its main attractions lie beyond. Along this route, your tour guides will showcase ancient petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, and additional arches accessible by foot.

Next, we'll journey to Goblin Valley State Park. The name "goblins" refers to the numerous distinctive hoodoos—weathered stone columns—that adorn this captivating park. The absence of designated trails in the park permits you to approach the hoodoos closely and capture incredible photos. Time permitting, your tour guide will lead you on a hike to Goblins Lair, an astonishingly tall cave that must be seen to be believed!

After exploring Goblin Valley State Park, we'll travel back along Highway 191 to Salt Lake City. Established in 1847 by a group of pioneers, Salt Lake City has flourished into the vibrant capital of Utah and a gateway to the West. If time allows, your tour guide will accompany you to visit the heart of the city: Temple Square and the Capitol Building.

Depending on your departure flight time, we can drop you off at the airport or at a hotel of your choice.

FAQ

What should I know before joining the tour?

Bring enough drinking water. Drinking water and food can be purchased at visitor centers, but there are no stores along hiking trails or roads. Bring enough water for the day. Temperatures in the canyons can reach very high levels in summer, so also pack simple snacks to keep your energy up and avoid fatigue or heat stroke.

Wear comfortable shoes. The itinerary includes hiking on sandstone surfaces which can be slippery. Comfortable walking shoes or dedicated hiking shoes are strongly recommended.

Be prepared for all kinds of weather. Utah's national parks each have their own unique climate and weather patterns that can be difficult to predict. Dress in layers and consider bringing a lightweight rain jacket or windproof outer layer.

Protect yourself from the sun. Sunscreen is essential. Sunburn can lead to heat stroke and dehydration in addition to skin damage. A hat and sun-protective clothing are also a good idea, especially on exposed routes.

What happens if weather closes roads or attractions during my Utah and Arizona tour?

Utah and Arizona's national parks cover some of the most expansive and remote terrain in the country, and there is a lot of ground to cover. Occasionally weather conditions, seasonal road closures, or factors outside our control may affect access to certain areas or attractions. When this happens your guide will adapt the day and take you somewhere else worth seeing. Your guide knows this region well and will make sure your day is still memorable, whatever the conditions.
